Dear visitor ~
I have been asked to introduce this first offering of my sculptures on the World Wide Web. How appropriate to first offer them from Grailville, since most of these sculptures were born on these acres and they express the mysteries in which our lives were centered.
Sculpture, since the age of eight, was my passion and the most obvious talent I brought, along with my 18-year-old energy, decades ago to Grailville. In the paradox of the unexpected, the success of my book, Hope for the Flowers, put sculpture on the sideline for awhile. But now, with the help of my son and others, these images, which seem to have acquired classic status, are offered again to a new generation of searchers.
In their earlier period, these sculptures traveled far – into many homes
and lives. They were sold by mail and in stores throughout the country.
They became beloved by many people of different faiths and of no formal faith at all. They
are meant to express spiritual ideas and be inspirational to those looking for such images.
Grailville, at the time of their creation, was an intentional, spiritual
community of Catholic lay women – the U.S. center of the International Grail Movement.
I think the following story of the production of one of these sculptures – the Nativity – expresses not only the spirit behind its creation – but also the spirit behind the rest of the sculptures.
